Hello to MSIDT Alumni and Current Students!
Welcome to the new MSIDTAA blog! We will be using this site to share news and updates with you going forward. We have quite a bit to share about our Fall lineup.
Fall 2010 Webinars
We have two webinars planned for the Fall, presented by former MSIDT graduates. We will be sending out an Evite to everyone with more detailed information. Make sure to mark these dates on your calendars. In addition, we will be sending out a survey to find out what kind of topics you would be most interested in learning about in upcoming webinars in the next week or so. We value your input.
Webinar #1: Wednesday, Sept. 22nd @ 12:00 p.m.
Topic: Selecting Technology to Enhance Learning
Presenter: LaTonya S. Motley, MS-ID&T. Instructional Media Coordinator for Distance Education at El Camino College in Torrance, California, and an adjunct instructor at Long Beach City College.
Webinar #2: Wednesday, Nov. 17th @ 12:00 p.m.
Topic: TBD
Presenter: Iskandaria Masduki, MS-ID&T. Research Associate & Instructional Design Coordinator at Florida State University.
MSIDTAA Book Club
Cohort 7 started an online book club upon graduation in the spring. They have piloted the program successfully and now are opening it up to the MSIDTAA. Randall Fujimoto is heading up the launch of the program. The purpose of the book club is to build a strong community of learners who are interested in continuing to learn about instructional design, educational technology, and other related topics. If you are interested in joining the book club, please email Randall Fujimoto to receive further information.
VP of Relationships and Faculty Liaison Special Election
We will be conducting a special election in October. In the last couple years, we piloted a new office called VP of Relationships and Faculty Liaison. This position has been the interface between the MSIDTAA and the MSIDT faculty. We would like to make this position official. In order to do so, we need you to vote. The election will be composed of two concurrent parts: 1) the approval of the new office; 2) the election of the current incumbent, Mark Worden. The Job Description for this office has been developed by the faculty and alumni officers. We hope you will approve this role. It has been instrumental in growing MSIDTAA the last couple years.
MSIDTAA Calendar
In an effort to be more transparent, we have put together an MSIDTAA Calendar. Kristi Smemoe manages this calendar. You will find current MSIDT Alumni events, MSIDT cohort key dates, MSIDTAA book club deadlines and more.
MSIDTAA Scholarship
We are working on putting together fundraising activities for the 2011-2012 MSIDTAA Scholarship. We are always looking for donations too. Please contact Tai James if you would like to participate in a fundraising activity. Keep your eyes out! Tai is working on some really fun activities and opportunities for 2010-2011.
MSIDT News
The MSIDTAA would like to extend a welcome to Cohort 9, who completed their Boot Up Camp on August 21st. The MSIDTAA was represented by Mark Worden, Donna Cruz, and L'Oreal Battistelli. Returning to the Boot Up Camp brings back a flood of memories, and offers an insight into how much thought Dr. Carter-Wells and the rest of the MSIDT team have put into organizing this event. With so much information to provide the new cohort, we are humbled to be provided time to tell them about the MSIDTAA. Thanks to the work of Cindy Edwards we were able to provide a Cohort 9 bookmark and postcard that contains information about how they can contact us. Since we have already had some Cohort 9 members join us on Facebook and LinkedIn, this seems to be working. Thank you Cindy! Cohort 9 is both the largest cohort and the first to have an international student, with a member from Great Britain. As I told them, if Cindy can be an active member and officer in Oregon, we can look forward to having our first international member soon.
Coming up on October 2nd is the Cohort 8 Mid-point meeting. This is the where the MSIDTAA can fill a need by offering our mentoring services. If you would like to be a mentor to someone in Cohort 8, please contact Cindy Edwards. If we can provide a valuable service to these students, they will join us and become strong advocates for the MSIDTAA.
This just in: Jose Dacio from Cohort 9 has created a study group for MSIDT on meetup.com, and “alumni and future cohorts are always welcome.” (invitation code = LEARN)
Keep In Touch with MSIDTAA Alumni!
We are on Facebook and Linked In, so check out our sites. We have regular discussions and interactions with alumni on both sites. Check out the discussions posted by alumni to see what is going on in the industry. We also have jobs posted on the site that you can check out!
